E, EQ, U AND TOROIDAL design tools are a powerful aid to assist design engineers choosing the optimum core size and material for a specific power inductor application. Design Engineers just need to enter their design parameters such as block size, required inductance (L in µHenries), number of turns (N), rated current (Amps), current density (A/mm²) current ripple rate (%) and frequency (KHz) into the spread sheet and it will automatically calculate the DC Bias characteristics – in other words the remaining Inductance values at different DC Bias conditions ranging from inductance value at no load (0 Amps), up to the inductance value at full load (Peak Current) -.
Core and total losses for AC and DC conditions will be automatically calculated by the design spread sheet. It is worthy to mention that the spread sheet will also characterize the DC Bias performance of the chosen core made out of the different available permeabilities and will display a DC Bias Performance graphs, thus helping design engineer to determine the optimum core for their specific application.
